The best way to protect your new Macbook or Macbook Pro is to get a case for it ASAP.  I purchased a white Macbook and there are tons of scratches on it.  In fact, within the first week of owning it, I somehow managed to get a huge gash on the white case.  Protection doesn't have to look like a nerf protective case that you see on Nintendo DSI systems.  There are great, sleek cases that will protect and look good.
