Audio Technica ATR-3350 is an Affordable Quality Lavalier Lapel Mic for Video
Great for the Price
I was looking for a simple fix for a problem I was having when recording audio with my Cannon HV-40 camcorder. I had been using a regular microphone hooked into a Beachtech XLR to mini jack converter, but I needed something that would free my hands up for on camera presentation. Most of my videos that need a lavalier mic that doesn't require wireless. I figured for $25, the worst thing that could happen is I lose $25. I purchased the mic from Amazon since they had the best price, and I had it in my mail box 3 days later. The mic is powered with a small internal battery that is included when you purchase the mic. The life of the battery is also really good, as long as you don't forget to turn off the mic when you are finished. If you need a mic that is small and wired direct to the camera, check out the Audio Technica ATR-3350.
About It
The Audio Technica ATR-3350 is a condenser microphone has made me quite happy. In fact, I purchased 2 more to use at another location. This high quality condenser is ideal for video use, and is equipped with a 3.5 mm mini plug. I have used this mic with a Cannon HV-40 and a Sony HVR 1000-U and had great results.
The Audio Technica ATR-3350 uses a H44 battery that reminds me of a watch battery. I would advise you to get a few batteries for backup, especially since there is no LED light to let you know when you leave it on.
The cable is 20 ft. long, more than enough for most video applications. The frequency response of this mic is great, 50 Hz to 18 kHz. I had plenty of highs to work with, and the mic doesn't seem to have too much mid range (seems cheap mics always sound like an AM radio.)
Inside the box, you will find the mic, a tie clip, battery for the mic, windscreen, and an adapter to convert the signal to a 1/4 plug. The tie clip is sturdy and I am really impressed with it.
Audio Technica does place a 1 year warranty on this microphone. More than enough time for me to make my money back. I will be using this mic to record weekly web videos and occasionally for interviews that will be used for broadcast TV. Sure this isn't a high-dollar mic, but for around $25 USD (under $20 at Amazon), it's pretty tough to beat! I would be satisfied if I paid $100 for this mic, but at $25 I am ecstatic!
